Candace is a passionate advocate for the importance of mathematics in everyday life. Despite hearing common complaints from students about the subject's relevance, she strives to show them the broader applications of math beyond the classroom. Candace believes that mathematical reasoning is crucial not only for academics but also for logical thinking and everyday decision-making. Her dedication lies in encouraging others to recognize the numerous ways math influences our daily lives, from managing finances to solving practical problems and making informed choices. Through her efforts, Candice hopes to inspire a greater appreciation and understanding of the subject's value.
Melinda's journey to establishing her educational center began with a unique inspiration from one of her high school students, Candace. Prior to opening her lab, Melinda traveled to students' homes to provide personalized tutoring. During one memorable session, Candace, who struggled with and strongly disliked mathematics, expressed her frustration with an emphatic declaration of her hatred for the subject. This moment sparked an idea in Melinda, who promised that one day she would open a center named "Why I Hate Math," embracing the challenge of transforming students' aversion to mathematics into understanding and interest. Thus, Melinda's lab was born, dedicated to demystifying math and making it accessible and engaging for all students.
